Many small businesses in the U.S. “pivoted” during the pandemic. If you’ve made some changes that are working for you, then great!

But if you’re wondering where to start or what else to do, then I’ve got some interesting articles to share this week on how a small business (or solopreneur) can create a successful digital marketing strategy in our challenging times.

Also, check out news from Instagram (new “Reels”) and Facebook  Messenger’s Chat plugin.

(1) 6 New Rules for B2B Marketing in the COVID-19 Era

An article on the Top Rank blog suggests business owners follow 6 new rules during this pandemic:

  • Always Be Relevant
  • Encourage Interaction
  • Keep Messaging Empathetic
  • Experiment with Formats
  • Collaborate on Content
  • Re-Align Measurement with Current Goals

“…These rules are best practices for content no matter what’s going on in the world. The pandemic didn’t create the need for these rules; it just amplified how crucial they are.”

(2) Right Now, We Need To Focus On Our Basics…

This Business 2 Community post reminds us of some business basics and how to adapt them to our current time:

  • Talk to customers, partners, and prospects
  • Network (in creative ways, just not in-person)
  • Offer to be helpful

Make a choice “…between creating value and working to make things better or just sitting around waiting for things to get better.”

(3) Instagram Reels launches globally in over 50 countries, including US – TechCrunch

Reels are 15-second video clips set to music (a Tik Tok competitor?).

You can create Reels in the Stories Camera and find Reels others have made in the Explore tab of the app.

(4) Facebook’s Updated Chat Plugin for Websites Enables Messaging Without Logging onto Messenger – Social Media Today

You can give people an easy way to communicate with you in real-time by installing the Messenger Chat plugin on your website.

This update allows people to chat anonymously, which may improve your engagement rate.
