New “Activity Dashboards” on Facebook and Instagram will help users track how much time they spend on each app. Do we need this? Are we so addicted to tech and social media that the major platforms themselves are going to help us disconnect from them?
Learn more about these new tools in the Resource of the Week below.
Each week, I share helpful resources across my social profiles to help small business owners and solopreneurs keep up with social media marketing, and optimize it for their business. What you’ll find in this weekly blog post:

“In the US…, time online has reached an average of 5.9 hours a day.” (Marketing Insider Group)
Are we spending too much time on Facebook and Instagram? The new Activity Dashboards rolling out on both platforms are meant to help users track how much time they spend on each app.
You can set up alerts if you want to be notified when you’ve spent a designated time on the app, and if you want to set limits for your screen time, then these tools may be helpful.
See the screenshot below for a look at the dashboard on Facebook:
In the bigger picture of Work-Life Balance, it may help users give more thought to building time into their day that takes them away from technology.
You could set a Facebook limit of 2 hours each day and when you get an alert that you’ve reached that limit, you take a break and do something else: for yourself, for your business, for your family.
So maybe these new tools will help us be more productive and/or enjoy more time with people in real life instead of online.
What do you think? I’ll keep you posted as these activity dashboards roll out and I give them a try.
