All small business owners and entrepreneurs experience frustration with business goals at some point – think of it as a part of the learning process! But it’s important to find a way to keep a positive attitude.
We may not be able to control all that is happening around us, but we have the power to turn what we perceive as a “negative” into something positive.
As Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, the author of one of my favorite books The Power of Positive Thinking, states:
“Any fact facing us is not as important as our attitude toward it, for that determines our success or failure.”
If you focus on everything that is going wrong, you are going to stay in a negative frame of mind that is not likely to produce successful results.
Instead, take steps to change your attitude and practice positive thinking to bring positive results to your business. Here are a few tips:
Tip 1: Set small goals that you can accomplish quickly
If you are feeling frustrated, now is not the time to focus all your energy on a goal that is complicated or takes a long time to achieve. Set goals with short time-frames – set yourself up for success.
A few goals met on a daily basis will quickly give you a sense of accomplishment. And that sense of accomplishment will help you keep a positive attitude.
Then with an improved attitude, you can begin to work on those bigger goals.
Tip 2: Surround yourself with positive people
If you are feeling frustrated, don’t seek advice from people in your life who usually see the “glass as half-empty”. They are obviously struggling with keeping a positive attitude themselves, so how can they help you feel any better?
Instead, talk to people who are successful and look on the bright side of things. Do what they do; follow their advice; put into practice the systems they use to stay positive.
Tip 3: Keep track of the good things, not the bad
Instead of mentally keeping track of all the things that are going wrong, write down all the things that are going right! Whether it’s a gratitude journal or a list of daily goals met, put it down on paper (or in digital form).
List all the things that are going well in your business and use this technique to bring you a step closer to a more positive attitude.
Keeping a positive attitude is so important to the success of your business. If you are feeling frustrated, take some time each day to work on changing your attitude.
Your positive attitude will make a difference in the results you see in your work as well as other areas of your life.
“Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
