Thoughts & Tips from Terry: Keep Up with Trends on Top Platforms

We’re talking about diversifying your social media strategy this year, and not relying on only one platform. But it’s also important to keep up with trends and changes on platforms so you can optimize the features that are working right now.

Keep up with social media trends for business

For example, on Facebook, what’s working?

  • Live Video and Video in general get very high reach and engagement
  • A Facebook Group attached to your Page may be a more effective way to stay in touch with your target audience than simply relying on page posts
  • Facebook Messenger is getting a lot of attention from platform developers, and you may find it a great tool to supplement external email communications with customers or prospects

What’s big on Instagram right now?

Stories!

After studying business accounts on the platform, Social Bakers found that Instagram Stories are big for organic reach for brands:

“For the brands analyzed, we can see that one-fifth of their Impressions are solely coming from Stories. This is actually a huge chunk – especially if you take into consideration that it’s purely organic – which is becoming harder and harder to achieve.”

Twitter Trends?

With the platform’s recent update to its terms of service, which states that users cannot share duplicate content to more than one account or even repeat content on one account, a “set it and forget it” approach is no longer the best strategy.

More “human to human” Tweets, using emojis / videos / Gifs in your Tweets, and taking advantage of the 280-character limit…are all suggestions for this platform now.

Pinterest?

A new profile is being rolled out to business accounts (another reason to create a business account on Pinterest), that will let you choose which Pins to put in a new Cover Image.

We’ll be paying more attention to optimizing Pins (content, size, frequency) to take advantage of this upcoming change.

Those are just a few platforms and trends – are there specific platforms you want to learn more about?
